Help future geologists gain critical field skills to benefit the planet

The Geological Field School brings classroom learning to life through hands-on experience in Oliver, BC. With the world-class training and research opportunities that the field school offers, UBC geology students gain critical field skills to benefit the planet.

Darius Kamal, a field school student, said: “Field School gave us ‘boots-on-the-ground’ fieldwork that was essential to our careers, and I formed some life-long friendships there. Geology allows me to study the processes that shaped Earth's past, present, and future in terms of resources and climate change. Whether in academia or industry, our personal and professional lives will be shaped by how we use our research for the benefit of the planet's future.”

This three-week immersive educational experience is essential to the future success and impact of our students but the associated costs can be prohibitive. In addition to paying the tuition fee to attend the mandatory field school, students must pay for equipment—from field gear to mapping materials and field boots—and special levies. The field school fund helps subsidize these costs and additional expenses.

Your gift will help prepare future geologists to play a key role in the future of our changing Earth.
